European Projects

The Opengela project has been backed by the European Commission since its beginnings. First, through the Horizon 2020 programme, which financed the HIROS4all project between 2019 and 2023; then, through the LIFE programme, which is now promoting the BIRTUOSS project from 2023 to 2026. In addition, the Basque Government has the support of local councils and the private sector.

HIROSS4all (2019-2023)

This European project laid the foundations for the new model of proximity offices related to urban regeneration. As a pilot experience, two offices were set up: in Otxarkoaga (Bilbao) and Txonta (Eibar). In total, 33 buildings were successfully renovated in with the participation of 461 families.

BIRTUOSS (2023-2026)

Since September 2023, this European project develops the model created in HIROSS4all, and delves into social, economic and environmental aspects. It also explores formulas for upgrading the rehabilitation of buildings to the urban regeneration of each neighbourhood.
